“The most beautiful things often ache the most, because we know they cannot stay.”
There’s a certain kind of fear that comes with deep connection — the fear of knowing it won’t last forever. You can feel the ending even in the midst of the beginning. Sometimes it’s circumstance, sometimes timing, sometimes simply life. But one way or another, you know: this too will end.
And that’s what makes it so terrifying… and so beautiful.
To meet someone who awakens pieces of you long dormant — who sees you in ways no one else has, who stirs your voice, your body, your truth — is rare. Some would call it fate, others a soul mate, but whatever the word, it leaves its mark. A mark that can’t be undone.
The hardest part is holding both truths at once: the joy of having it now and the grief of knowing it cannot last. The sweetness of presence tangled with the ache of impermanence. It makes you cling tighter, even while your hands shake.
And beneath it all lies the unspoken: the wish that it could last forever. Words never uttered, never asked, but silently lived in the marrow of every moment. Because wanting what cannot be is its own kind of surrender — one you carry quietly, knowing the longing will never be answered, but still refusing to let it go.
So you keep it for as long as you can. You hold it as long as it wants to be held. You let yourself hope — not in a forever that may never come, but in the beauty of each moment that does. You learn to savor the hours, to stretch them wide, to let them fill you completely. Because nothing lasts forever… but while it does, it can feel like everything.
Maybe the gift isn’t in how long it lasts. Maybe the gift is in how it changes you. How it leaves you unable to go back to the person you were before. How it shows you what it feels like to be seen, known, and wanted — even if only for a season.
Because once you’ve been touched in that way, you are never the same again.
