The Ache of Unspoken Wishes

“There are some longings too tender to ever be voiced out loud.”

There’s a difference between wanting and asking.

Wanting is the ache that blooms quietly inside you — the wish to hold someone close, to lay in bed together long after the world has gone still, to be seen not just in moments of passion but in the softer, slower hours.

Asking is the crossing of a threshold, the risk of placing that longing into someone else’s hands.

And sometimes, you know the asking can’t be done. Circumstance, timing, reality — they draw boundaries you cannot ignore. So you swallow the wanting, hold it in silence, and carry it quietly alongside the pieces you are allowed to keep.

That’s the part no one talks about — the grief of longing for what you know you cannot have. Not because you are unloved, not because you are unworthy, but because life has already drawn its lines.

So you learn to live in the space between. Grateful for what is, aching for what isn’t, careful never to let the words slip from your mouth. Because wanting is human, but asking would be too much.

And sometimes the deepest vulnerability lies not in what we confess, but in the wishes we never dare to speak.
