The Ache for Obsession

A confession of longing, intensity, and the hunger to be unforgettable. To be desired is one thing; to be consumed is another.

I came across a quote a year or so ago, and it’s been layered in my brain ever since. It read: “Every woman has a deep inner longing to be dominated by a man who is absolutely obsessed with them and not afraid to show it.”

That line has stayed with me because it names something I rarely admit aloud: I don’t just want to be wanted, I want to be obsessed over. Not in the sense of a relationship, not in the promises of love or forever, but in the way a man can’t get enough of me. The way he thinks I’m enough for him—enough to fill his thoughts, enough to stir his hunger, enough to occupy the quiet spaces in his day.

What I ache for is to be the one who lingers in his mind no matter where he is or what he’s doing. To know that when I cross his thoughts, he doesn’t keep it to himself—he tells me. He lets me know I’m there, and in that moment, I become undeniable.

There is a difference between being appreciated and being consumed. Between being noticed and being claimed. My longing isn’t for halfway or polite restraint. It’s for intensity. It’s for obsession that doesn’t hide, doesn’t apologize, doesn’t dilute itself to make me easier to handle.

Sometimes, though, I wonder if that longing is too much. If it’s unreasonable to want that kind of relentless presence. Mental health reminds me that many of us wrestle with attachment wounds—those invisible marks left by inconsistency, abandonment, or being made to feel “too much.” Longing for obsession can come from that place: the need to be reassured, again and again, that we matter, that we’re more than a convenience.

Still, I don’t know if I’ll ever experience it. I don’t know if a man like that even exists outside the fantasies that keep me awake at night. But the ache remains—quiet, steady, alive.

And maybe that’s the hardest truth: I don’t want love. I don’t want possession. I want obsession. I want to be the thought he cannot shake.
