She does not think her struggle is with love itself. She thinks her struggle is with believing she is someone who gets to be chosen.
Not desired. Not appreciated in private moments. Not wanted when it is easy. Chosen in a way that feels steady and unquestioned.
She has never fully seen herself as that woman.
Because of that, she does not ask for much. She does not ask for reassurance when she feels uncertain. She does not ask for clarity when something shifts and she feels it in her body before she can explain it. She does not ask for more time or more presence, even when she quietly wishes for it.
Instead, she tells herself she knew what this was. She tells herself she should be grateful. She tells herself that wanting more would be unfair or selfish.
If she is honest, there are days she convinces herself she already knows her place.
That she is the body.
The softness.
The escape.
Something to be wanted in moments but not woven into the fabric of a life.
No one has to say it out loud. The silence fills in the rest. And in that silence, she assumes she is temporary. Useful. Replaceable.
So she folds the wanting inward.
If something stings, she smooths it over. If she feels jealous, she swallows it. If she feels unseen, she convinces herself she imagined it. She would rather adjust herself than risk asking to be met.
There is a particular sadness in believing you are not the kind of person who gets chosen fully. It shapes how she shows up. It makes her careful. It makes her smaller than she is.
She would never interfere with someone else’s life. She would never ask to be placed above what already exists. Even if some quiet part of her wonders what it would feel like to be chosen that way. Even if some part of her aches to matter beyond the moments that are convenient.
So she stays where she is invited. She accepts what is offered. She does not push at the edges.
And most days, she carries it quietly. The understanding that she can offer depth, loyalty, and devotion, and still believe she is only meant to be touched, not kept.
There is no drama in it. Just a soft resignation. A tender sadness that lives under the surface.
