219,000 Hours

Two hundred nineteen thousand hours
in the same house
living separate lives.

They stopped sharing a bed years ago,
but the distance started long before that.
Sleep only made it visible.

There was no great love story here.
No tragedy.
Just convenience that lasted too long
and slowly hardened into habit.

They learned how to coexist.
How to pass each other in hallways
without asking real questions.
How to make silence functional.

Hurt feelings had nowhere to go
because naming them would have required change.
Loneliness became background noise.
Heartache dulled into something manageable.

They stayed because leaving felt disruptive.
Because surviving together
was easier than risking the unknown apart.

But two people can spend that many hours
just maintaining a structure
and still never build a life.

This is not partnership.
This is endurance.

And somewhere beyond these hours
there is happiness that does not require compromise
to the point of disappearance.
There are lives where waking up feels like choice,
not obligation.

They both deserve that.
Not with each other.
But separately.
With people who want more than survival.
With lives that finally feel like living.
