Life is too short
to love someone
who treats affection like a favor,
like something earned
instead of given.
Too short to wait
for warmth
from hands that never reach,
for words that stay locked away
as if tenderness costs them something.
Do not spend your days
with someone who rationed you,
who learned your presence so well
they forgot to notice it,
who assumes you will stay
because you always have.
Love is not a decision
made daily out of obligation.
It is not withheld to maintain control.
It is not silence disguised as strength.
Life is brief.
The clock does not pause
for indifference.
Choose the one
who touches you without thinking,
who speaks your name like it matters,
who does not make you wonder
whether you are loved today.
Because love that feels optional
is already gone.
And you do not have
that much time.
